Your Business Coach Is the Problem, Not You
Have you ever found yourself completely overhauling your business because a coach told you to, only to watch your sales plummet? Have you implemented someone else's "proven system" and discovered it's proving nothing except that your stress levels can, in fact, go higher?
And the cherry on top: when you ask for help, you're told you're "not trying hard enough" or "not implementing correctly" or my personal favorite, "you're being resistant to change."
Then finally, the ultimate insult: being asked to leave the program because you're "uncoachable."
If you've experienced this, I want you to hear something loud and clear: You are not the problem. The coach is the problem.
I've Seen It Happen Over and Over
About 6-7 years ago, I was in a coaching program that did this very thing. I watched friend after friend come in with a thriving business and 3-6 months later leave the group because they were "uncoachable."
Let that sink in. Successful business owners with proven track records suddenly becoming "uncoachable" at an alarming rate.
This isn't your fault. It's actually the business coach's fault because their sales system didn't weed you out as "not a fit" from the beginning. Instead, they took your money, tried to force your business into their mold, and then blamed you when it didn't work.
The Cookie-Cutter Coaching Trap
Here's what's really happening: that coach is trying to upend your unique business model and turn you into a carbon copy of their business. They have one system, one approach, one formula – and they're jamming your square-peg business into their round-hole methodology.
A good business coach isn't going to do that. They're going to listen to you and your end goals and help you achieve them. They recognize that your business has its own DNA, its own market position, and its own strengths.
The Warning Signs I Wish I'd Recognized
I've been there. I've paid for the high-ticket coaching programs, implemented the "proven systems," and watched with growing panic as things got worse, not better. And like many entrepreneurs, my first thought was, "What am I doing wrong?"
Here are the red flags I wish I'd recognized sooner:
One-Size-Fits-All Solutions When a coach presents their exact system as the only path to success, regardless of your industry, business model, or unique circumstances.
Dismissing Your Concerns When you raise legitimate questions about how their approach fits your business, they label you as "resistant" or "fearful of success."
Moving the Goalposts First it's "just implement the system," then it's "you need to give it time," then it's "you need our upsell program to see real results."
Blame-Shifting When their strategies don't work, it's never because of flawed advice - it's always because you "didn't implement correctly" or "didn't try hard enough."
Lack of Customization Their materials, guidance, and feedback feel generic, not tailored to your specific business challenges.
