The Hidden Cost of ‘Mompreneur’

Why “Female Entrepreneur” Isn’t a Compliment — It’s a Ceiling

Hey friends —

Let’s talk about labels.
Specifically, the ones that sound empowering… until you realize they’re not.

“Female Entrepreneur.”
“Mompreneur.”

Cute, right?
Except every one of those words comes with a hidden cost.

Because when you put “female” or “mom” in front of “entrepreneur,” you’re telling the world that this person is different.
Unusual.
Not the default.

And that one word changes everything — from how investors describe you, to the interest rate you get, to how seriously people take your business.

It’s not just sexism; it’s economics.
We’ve been branded into smaller boxes — literally.

Women own nearly 40% of U.S. businesses, but bring in less than half the revenue of men-owned ones.
Not because we’re less capable — but because we’re still treated like a niche.

So here’s my challenge to you:
The next time someone calls you a “female entrepreneur,” just smile and say —
“No. I’m an entrepreneur.”

Because we don’t need extra labels to prove we belong.
We built the table.

xx,
Heather
